A lot of requests were made for a single page smaller one in PDF version and a Google Doc version. So, Chloe took her time and made you exactly that!!!
This call sheet will print on one side of a standard 8.5×11 inch sheet of paper.
Now, I know it isn’t in PDF format natively, that because the nature of call sheets need to be customized a lot before use… so Google Docs can easily export it to PDF and XLS, so it covers both of those with ease.
Here are some quick instructions on how to export it to PDF and XLS, but you can just make a copy to your Google Drive and use it from there; I’d recommend that way.
Over the last few years, I got pretty close a few times… but that barrier is a magical one… and as superficial as it sounds, it felt so good to finally do it.
That good feeling isn’t from the money. Its all from being validated that you are awesome in someone elses eyes. That your work, your talent, you… you… you… are epic and amazing. Well, that and knowing you can pay your employees and bills… that feels very good too.
I’m going to start this story a while ago… 2009… when shooting on the Canon 5D mark II was just getting popular (don’t worry, it’s not that long of a story). Vu and I were shooting everything we could. We were shooting promotional videos for photographers, we were shooting a daily comedy show, we were shooting weddings, we would shoot anything. We drove to Los Angeles from Orange County once or twice a week just to meet up with other people making videos and posting them online. We had been doing this since 2005, before YouTube was a place we trusted to upload our videos.
All of this hustle and work and network building was confusing but so so fun. Meeting other like minded people and talking to them for hours and hours was one of the best feelings I ever had. But I never knew how it would actually benefit me. I just knew I liked it.
What did I actually like? I liked shooting, I liked talking about shooting, I liked showing people some cool tricks I learned or some new way to encode videos that saved time or bandwidth, I liked meeting someone then shooting with them and making something awesome but then going and shooting something else with someone new right after!
I was a slut.
We have had a massive response to the call sheet template!!! It makes me so happy to see people want and need it.
The biggest request were instructions on how to actually properly use and fill out the call sheet. So… after contacting Lindsey Koens (the one person I think would be perfect for this), we are now doing a webinar/live stream with her so everyone can join in and learn how!!!
Lindsey was a producer on the last big commercial I shot for Manfrotto where we drove around California for 7 days shooting in 12 locations… and I could not have done it without her. I’ve worked with her a few times and trust her implicitly. She works extra hard, is super smart and has worked on massive projects as well as tiny ones, so she knows where we are coming from.
So, just to prepare for the how to event, let us know what questions you have!!!

No strings attached… just straight free download of a professional Call Sheet Template.
I’ve looked high and hard for a great call sheet template… even a good call sheet template… even just a usable call sheet template!!! I was not able to find one that really did the job. I was always jealous when I got hired to go on set to DP a shoot and the call sheet was all nice and pretty and more importantly easy to read and looks easy to use! An easy to use call sheet was nowhere to be found.
So… I asked Microsoft Excel GURU, Chloe Mae Loop, to make one with me after consulting with one of my producers, Lindsey Koens on what all it should have on it. We built it from the ground up keeping ease of editing in mind. We pulled out a number of call sheets from commercials, TV shows, indy films, big feature films and made what we believe to be the a great easy to use call sheet.
Chloe made it in Excel, but then I realized that not everyone would have Excel so I put up a survey asking people what format they would like to have it in.
2,320 people ended up taking a look at the survey so I think we have a pretty good idea what format the call sheet template should be in. The top two were Excel and PDF. So right now we are publishing it in both MAC and PC versions of Excel with the PDF version of the call sheet on the way (we will just add it here later).
Please download it and use it for free. Here are the direct download links:
Enjoy!!! And if there are any changes or suggestions let’s discuss that below in the comments.
So, we are just about ready to release a free no strings attached call sheet template that anyone can use. I stress… free and no strings attached… because in my hunt for a call sheet template I found lot of strings attached. Mostly just really crappy call sheets though. Read More…
We just hit 75 private beta testers!!! YAYA!!! And all I have to say is MORE PLEASE!!!
Both more beta testers and more videos like the one above, which just happens to be a video that took my mind off the launch for 3 minutes.
This video reminds me not to take everything so serious and this startup, this industry changing (in my eyes) website, this launch… should all be kept for what it is all about. Having fun making things we love, and laughing while doing it.
Today Aaron called me and I answered with “Your call has been denied, it is your anniversary.” We had a good laugh about that, then talked business a bit “Business business BUSINESS BuSinEss business” and now he is back to his anniversary celebration day. We take Cast and Crew Call very seriously, but we also will laugh and joke about how ridiculous everything is, like how when you fix one thing another thing breaks… it’s kind of funny and we laugh about it but at the end of the day we both have been staying up all night making sure everything gets done and works right.
So… when I get too serious and get caught up in the work… I have to remember… what does the fox say?
